Starker
Construction Company (formerly Starker & Company) was formed in 1983
by William “Bud” Starker. After an early childhood spent in Europe,
New England and the Middle East he attended the University of
Colorado at Boulder with a plan to become a lawyer. In college he
discovered his love for construction while working as a carpenter
during breaks from school.
Bud worked for a local general contractor for many years, first as a
carpenter and quickly moved up the ranks to superintendent,
estimator and project manager. Feeling a need to start his own
business he struck out on his own, forming Starker & Company in
1983.
Bud leased an office in North Denver where he specialized in tenant
finish construction. Starker Construction began building its
reputation through successful projects around the Denver Metro area,
and Bud became known as a man with character and integrity, as well
a business owner with honesty and the ambition to provide
exceptional services to his clients. These traits proved to be key
in the difficult years the industry witnessed during the 1980’s.
While some companies struggled or went out of business, Starker
Construction continued to prosper.
In 1986 Bud hired a previous co-worker, Valentina (Val) Kominek, to
help him with office operations, accounting and marketing. The
company quickly began to grow, adding new clients and new varieties
of projects to Starker’s menu of construction services. Val proved
to be a key asset to Starker and was named Secretary/Treasurer.
Bud has dedicated himself to the construction industry, not only as
the President of Starker Construction, but also serving as President
of the Colorado chapter of the Associated General Contractors for
2000 and 2001. He continually gets involved in current construction
issues, striving for greater understanding of the profession by the
public and higher standards from the industry.
Starker Construction works on ground-up new construction,
restaurants, renovation, remodels, and design/build projects for a
wide variety of users and continued to strive for the same level of
service that they had always provided. In 1993 Starker moved into
their current home at 730 Kalamath Street, allowing continued staff
growth and more diversity in projects and clientele.
Starker is proud to be in the Denver market and of their
relationships with subcontractors and suppliers in the area. Their
ability to come up with innovative ways of handling construction
challenges and demanding schedules is possible because of their
positive relationships with subcontractors and suppliers. They are
just one of the reasons why Starker Construction has prospered for
seventeen years and looks forward to a bright future.
Starker Construction has worked with many developers and restaurants
throughout Denver. Some recent projects include Chipotle Mexican
Grill at numerous locations, Broadway Central located at 6th &
Broadway, St. Paul Square, located at 320 St. Paul in Cherry Creek
and Littleton Public Schools District Stadium building.
Today Starker Construction Company has a long list of successful
projects completed throughout the Front Range. They believe that
customer satisfaction is the core of their success and has built
their business through the referrals of owners who believe they
received the best possible value for the dollar on the buildings,
restaurants and stores that Starker has completed.
The concept has stayed the same since the inception of the company –
“to provide our clients with professional, quality, comprehensive
construction services. To treat our employees, clients,
subcontractors and business associates with honesty and integrity.”
With this mission incorporated in everything that is done at
Starker, repeat customers and referrals will continue to come in,
and new opportunities are always right around the corner.
